Week 9 Journal Entry

This week's reading was very interesting to me personally as I come from what was once a British colony. This chapter gave me a better insight on British and European imperialism all over the world. I found the visuals to be helpful in understanding the size of the conquests European nations led. Eurocentrism, and false facts are at the center of this occurrence, which led to colonizing continents in whole.

Religion, education, and religious education were aspects that greatly helped colonizers during that time. In the United Arab Emirates, for instance, British missionaries would open clinics that specialized in assisting woman during labor, this was a humane and thoughtful way of infiltrating a group of people. This did not end well for the British missionaries, as conversions to Christianity never really took off and people stuck to Islam.
