Week 13 Journal Entry

The 23rd and final chapter in Strayer's book is by far the most dense out of all chapters. It discusses modern themes and how they play a role in the world's future history (today). Capitalism marked the beginning of the transformation of the world economy. It also discusses the reasons behind the establishment of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Strayer goes on to talk about globalization and critically explains the concept of reglobalization. An interesting notion in this chapter is the focus on the American Empire and its contribution to globalization.

Strayer sheds light over a variety of topics related to feminism: mainly feminism in the South and international feminism. Later on in the chapter, Strayer focuses on religion, primarily Islam; along with the creation of Islamic societies. Moreover, Strayer discusses religious fundamentalism that changed the course of history, specifically in the Middle East.

The Anthropocene Era is a major point in this chapter, and the whole book. It ties and related everything in the previous chapters with chapter 23. The environment is another major subject in this chapter, especially going green and how that would benefit future generations on Earth.
