Week 10 Journal Entry

Chapter 19 specifically looks at two centuries of colonization and the impact it had on surrounding areas. European actions in Asia led and continue to lead to turbulent tensions between Asian and Western countries. China's history has resulted in what we know China today, and this is true for all the countries in the world. Countries today are a byproduct of their history. Japan is one of the most peaceful nations today, but it has historically and constantly crossed the line and attacked neighboring lands. Everything Japan experienced, resulted in sculpturing it as a nation today. Religion surfaces many times in this chapter, on both social and political levels i.e. the Chinese brother of Jesus.

The next chapter was very interesting since its the modern history we came to learn about in schools. This chapter discusses the First World War, along with the developments that followed in Europe. It also looks over wars that took place in Asia. It also encompasses the rise of fascism in Europe, Italy and Germany specifically. It then covers the Second World War and how wars reached Asia. This chapter is very dense with information that it goes into the Holocaust, and the bombing at Hiroshima. Lastly, it touches on the outcome of the two wars, and the recovery of European nations.
