Week 4 SND Handout

What I found to be intriguing the most was Francoise's background. An eloquent aristocrat turned nun. Then again, it might've been the grandparents' influence. Assuming that Francoise was raised by her father, who was an atheist, would she have turned out to be a nun? It takes strong commitment for someone who is well off to sacrifice their lives for the well-being of others and the devotion to God and religion. Francoise was definitely influenced by her grandmother during her childhood, as she accompanied her to check on the practical well-being of villagers who lived on their lands.

Julie was a different person than Francoise, they came from different backgrounds and upbringings. It is fascinating to see two completely different people, come together to create a system that continues to serve others – hundreds of years after their time. Julie was a strong woman, after all she went through (family matters & personal), she and Francoise managed to establish an institute that educates people.

It was also interesting to know how Francoise was repulsed by Julie's multiple scoliosis. What specifically helped Francoise adjust? How did she overcome it? Francoise and Julie are two of the most influential female figures in modern Catholic Christianity.
